THANKSGIVING,
NOVEMBER 2015
Thanksgiving is
a national holiday celebrated in the United States. Every year on the fourth
Thursday in November families gather for a day of feasting, football and
togetherness. Today’s Thanksgiving celebrations look much different than the
original harvest meal of 1621, but it continues to be a day for everyone to
come together around the table.
The colonists
and local Native Americans came together after a devastating loss the winter of
1620. Many colonists had died because they were not prepared for the cold. The
Native Americans taught the colonists all they knew about hunting, growing and
harvesting crops to survive. Today, typically families will eat turkey,
stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, cooked and glazed carrots,
rolls and salad. For dessert you might find a variety of pies on the menu such
as cherry, pecan, and/or pumpkin.
Here in school,
on November 26th, we are celebrating
Thanksgiving and we are doing so by the hand of “The Improving Company” . Every twenty-five minutes every group of
students will enjoy a different activity such: singing, theatre,
storytelling, arts… Also a clown and a
magician will accompany us in a day of togetherness.
